The major problem with Christianity today is the problem of mentorship and discipleship. You can not claim to have a mentor who does not know you or have close contact with you. Jesus knew all his disciples closely, they could touch him, ask him questions and receive direct instructions from him. A mentor is a counselor, teacher, monitor, guidance and supervisor etc.

Many pastors and gospel ministers have no mentor and they are the problems we have today in the fold. They’re self-sufficient and self-reliant. They seem to have outgrown been discipled.

Your mentor is the person you report to.

Your mentor is the person we can report you to when you err.

Your mentor is the person that can rebuke, discipline and correct you.

Your mentor is the person you take instructions from.

Many people today are totally independent because they can’t submit to a human mentor, they are too big to receive instructions from a mentor or be disciplined when they err. Therefore they preach what they like, do what they like, go scot-free when the err and refuse to learn nothing new. Etc

Some choose a mentor from a distant part of the world, like someone who is in Ghana who has never travelled outside the country before choosing an American minister as a mentor. People they’ve never met in person or even sat directly under their ministration. What kind of mentoring is that?

Today we have pastors who want freedom to continue to commit fornication, manipulate and milk their innocent followers. Pastors who are beyond correction and punishment. Men who have turned themselves to mini-gods. Every Christian must be aware of such pastors. Show me your mentor and I will tell you who you are.

Don’t follow a man who has no reachable mentor.

If his is not following anybody don’t follow him. 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”

Joshua followed Moses.

Samuel followed Eli.

Elisha followed Elijah.
David followed Nathan.

Peter followed Jesus.

Who are you following?
