The gospel has suffered a serious setback recently due to the influx of too many lazy folks. A lot who entered the ministry today were failures in the secular world. People who are lazy emotionally and spiritually have nothing to do at the altar. A man without an evidence of success in the secular world is not qualified to enter into the ministry. The reason for this abnormality is not far-fetched as it is obvious there are scarcity of true labourers.
Matthew 9:37-38 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
This is a clarion call to urgently pray for God to send labourers to partake in the last harvest of lost souls. If we don’t pray this prayer very well we will continue to have lazy men taking up responsibility.
Many came into the ministry to keep soul and body together; others came in for the clamour and prestige. Most of our so-called shepherds today are hirelings; people who want the job because of the package. People who lack passion for the harvest but love the proceeds of the harvest. Men without a mandate and message shamelessly parading themselves about as God’s anointed.
Hebrews 5:4, And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
Those who entered into full-time ministry in the bible were not lazy men; most of them were called from their secular duty post. Paul was a tent maker before he became a pastor, Luke was a medical doctor before he became a pastor, Elisha was a farmer before he became a pastor, David was a herdsman before he was called, Peter was a fisherman before he entered into full-time Ministry, as well as Jesus who was a carpenter, etc.
Pastoral job is not an occupation nor a profession, it is a calling. God does not make use of lazy men; if you are lazy you are hereby advised to quit the altar because you will fail.
People who want to be pastors must be strong physically, spiritually, emotionally and morally. Moses was strong in all aspects but was weak emotionally and that cost him the Promised Land. Eli was strong but was weak morally and his lineage lost the priesthood forever.
Entering into the ministry does not automatically remove all the symptoms of laziness.
Fasting is hard work
Praying is hard work
Studying is hard work
Evangelism is hard work
Visitation is hard work
Counseling is hard work
Preaching is hard work
Anybody who wants to enter into the ministry and remain in ministry must be hardworking. When there is no job, don’t consider the job of a pastor; when you are unemployable to the world, don’t consider the job of a pastor; when your boss sacks you, don’t go and pick up a pastor’s job. If you cannot succeed in the secular, you cannot succeed in the gospel. You may have the charisma without the rhema; you maybe spiritual but not called.
Many are called but few are chosen.
