Marriage is sweet and the desire of the unmarried. But when it comes to Christian marriage, it’s not all butter and bread. Any serious Christian who wants to settle down in marriage must first sit down and count the cost.

  1. One Man to One Woman;

In Christian marriage it’s one man to one woman. Polygamy is totally prohibited under no circumstance.

  1. Divorce is Never an Option;

The only condition given to permit divorce was referred to a case between engaged couples and not married. Matthew 19:9 (KJVS) says, “And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.” Only the unmarried commit fornication, therefore no divorce after marriage. It doesn’t matter how bad or incompatible your spouse seems.

  1. Abstinence from Extra Marital Affairs;

Many have given many excuses for extramarital affairs, my spouse is not sexually active, I am sex starved, my spouse has been sick for quite a long time, my spouse is impotent, my spouse agreed with it etc. All these and other reasons are never excuses for extramarital affairs, it’s still an act of adultery nonetheless. All adulterers and adulteresses will not go unpunished.

  1. Danger Of Missing Heaven;

Will you want the trumpet to sound while you are with another woman/man? That is a sure ticket to hell.

  1. Danger of Unanswered Prayers;

For men who maltreat their spouses, 1 Peter 3:7 (KJVS) says, “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”

  1. Commandment to Leave and Cleave;

In God’s divine arrangement, every man/woman must leave their family to cleave to their spouse, which sadly is a difficult decision to go by for many.

  1. Danger of Lust;

A man must not look at any woman lustful other than his wife and vice versa, as that is seen as adultery.

  1. No Denying of Conjugal Rights to your Spouse (even if your spouse is a sex addict);

No reason is sufficient enough for married couples to deny each other sexual intimacy but for the sake of prayer and fasting subject to agreement by both party.

  1. For Better for Worse;

If the contract is signed, you are forever bound by it until death do you part. It doesn’t matter how long the WORSE may be, it’s for better for worse.

  1. Christianity is an Individual race but Oneness in Marriage should be upheld;

God sees a man and the woman as one as much they are married but when it comes to salvation, it is an individual and personal race.

It therefore behooves every man and woman to sit down and count the cost before going into marriage. Once you’re in, you’re in for life!
