Before we answer yes or no, let’s define masturbation and sin.
Masturbation is an act of achieving sexual satisfaction by stimulating one’s own sexual organs without the aid of a partner.
Sin, according to 1 John 5:17 is any act, deed or thought that is not right before God.
Masturbation is a product of lust. And Jesus Christ described fornication (sexual intercourse outside marriage) as lust. Lust is desire or a strong feeling to have something. Jesus said if you look at a woman in lust, you have committed fornication already.
Is masturbation a sin? Yes!
It’s a sin because it’s a sexual act and the only way a sexual act cannot be termed a sin is when it’s done within the confines of marriage. Any other sexual activity outside marriage is a sin.
Masturbation is now popular among Christians and even the clergy. Ministers of God now preach to encourage members to masturbate in order to ease tensions, claiming it is no sin. Their argument is centered around the fact that no opposite sex is involved. They forget that masturbation defiles the body as much as fornication does.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. -1 Corinthians 3:16-17
In some cultures, it’s morally wrong to masturbate. Anything you do in hiding or you can not proudly talk about is wrong. If it’s wrong it’s obviously a sin. Anyone who masturbates is defiling God’s temple and will definitely not go unpunished.
Sex within marriage (between a married man and his wife) is righteousness but any other sex outside the marriage in any form is a sin.
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. -1 Corinthians 6:18-20
That an act was never mentioned in the bible does not make it right, if it’s cultural and morally wrong it can never be scripturally right. People who have low self esteem often masturbate to make up. Most people who masturbate are already addicted to it. Ask those who masturbate and they will tell you that even though they do not commit the act with someone else physically, in their minds, they engage in all manner of thoughts to stimulate ejaculation. -Galatians 5:16 ESV
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Stop masturbating before it leads you to incest
Stop masturbating before it pushes you to bestiality
Stop masturbation before it becomes an addiction
Stop masturbating or face the wrath of God.
