CHRISTIANITY OF NO CROSS

It is unfortunate that the type of Christianity we practice in the 21st century is “Christianity without the cross”. Today’s Christians no longer go to the cross nor attempt to carry the cross.

“And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.” -Matthew 10:38

The cross symbolizes the following:
A place of death
A place of pain and sorrow
A place of suffering
A place of condemnation
A place of selfless sacrifice
A place where death was conquered, etc

As a perfect example, Jesus carried his own cross and he admonishes we his followers to also carry ours. Today, no one wants to carry the cross, no one wants to go through the pain and sorrow associated with the cross, yet we want the victory of the cross.

If Jesus died at the cross, then it’s eminent that all who wants to follow him must first die at the cross. Christians no longer die at the cross any more. The best they do is to faint so that when they are tempted or offended they wake up and put on the old man.

“Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord”. -Romans 6:11

If Jesus bore the pain and sorrow of His cross, then we can’t escape ours if we are disciples indeed. Believers of today don’t want to suffer for Christ’s sake anymore – theirs is a Christianity of comfort and convenience. Selflessness is no more a driving force in Christendom, today but selfishness.

No wonder the benefits of the cross has eluded our generation. No cross, no victory. Beware of those who tell you that in Christ it is all about enjoyment, fun and gain all through. There is no amount of faith that can remove the cross from the Gospel.

If you want to be a true christian, you must carry your cross regardless of the size and weight. Don’t be deceived by the Gospel of no cross.

May God Almighty send a helper, a Simon from cyrene to help you in carrying your cross. Amen.

  1. Most Christians do carry their crosses, but they’re not a necklace or charm that they carry on their person, nor are they a tattoo marked on their skin or stamped on their clothes. It’s a spiritual cross they bear, invisible to the world – seen only by God. Just because it cannot be see it doesn’t mean that it’s not there.

  2. As such God will never and can never reduce His standard of go heaven. If Jesus did despised the shame and endured the cross just for the joy that set before Him every candidate of heaven must do the same.
